Punta Mita, located at the northern tip of Banderas Bay, is a luxury surf destination that offers a range of breaks suitable for different skill levels. The most famous surf spot in Punta Mita is El Anclote, known for its long, peeling right-hand point break. This wave caters to both beginners and experienced surfers, making it a popular choice for surf enthusiasts of all backgrounds.

For more advanced surfers, nearby breaks like La Bahía and El Faro can provide more challenging and rewarding rides.

These breaks require a reservation at a resort or beach club to enter by road. Of course, the other option is to walk to the beach. The upscale resorts in Punta Mita offer a touch of luxury and relaxation after a day in the waves.

La Lancha

La lancha is located just a few minutes by scooter from the entrance of Punta Mita. A short 10-minute walk through the jungle will take you to this gorgeous white sand beach. Being such a beautiful beach and the fact that is has a lot of natural shade and is surrounded by nature it draws a lot of surfers and beach goers.

There are two main peaks that vary from beginner long boarder to intermediate short boarding. The most popular main break right in front of the trail head will have at least a few instructors teaching surf lessons most days. Although, if you take a short walk north down the beach you will reach a steeper and faster point break that is suitable for short boarding.

Burros

Continue down the Highway from La Lancha and you will encounter the “hidden” break of Burros. This is a local favorite as it offers a bit of everything and picks up any direction of swell. The drop is easy and mellow, but the wall can be fast and playful on the inside. An easy to navigate channel makes this a great break for anyone from beginner to advanced.

We recommend getting here early as the wind tends to ruin this wave most afternoons. Also, bring your polite surfing etiquette because you will be sharing your waves with plenty of others and most of them will live in the area.
